About Us


St. Joseph’s NS is a Catholic Primary School located in Aughavas, Co Leitrim.

We have a staff of 5 teachers including a Learning Support Teacher and a Resource Teacher. We also have two SNA’s and a school secretary.

The school has a very active Parents’ Association which supports many school activities along with helping and supporting parents.

We are a green school and in 2017 we received our 7th Green Schools Flag for the theme Global Citizenship and Energy. We also participate in the Active School and Discover Primary Science awards.

Sport is important in our school and we offer a variety of sports to suit all abilities and talents.

These include:

  • Gaelic Football

  • Soccer

  • Swimming

  • Basketball

  • Training is provided for all pupils in Gaelic Football

  • We take part in Cumann na mBunscol games every year.

  • We take part in community games draughts and athletics.

We have a variety of arts and crafts activities within the school e.g. knitting. Children start knitting in the infant room and continue this craft throughout the school. We also take part in art competitions from time to time.

Music is important in our school. Children from 3rd– 6th class participate in the Hallelujah concert every year. We take part in Scór concerts from time to time and tin whistle is taught throughout the school.

We are a charitable school and take part in a variety of charitable and money raising initiatives during the school year.

These include:

  • Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal

  • Change for Change

  • Hospice coffee morning

  • We donate 10% of the proceeds of our Christmas raffle to charity.

Our school is very much at the heart of our community and during the 2012 academic year we celebrated our school’s 30th anniversary. We take part in parish concerts and our school children take part in parish choir activities when needed. We have Mass during the school year and our children also perform in Christmas plays and members of the community are invited to attend.
